After her first child was born in 1999, she discovered yoga not only as a practice, but as a life long love and started a 200 hour teacher training with Karen Prior of Samatva Yoga in Dallas, Texas in 2003 during her second pregnancy. Amissa completed trainings in Mamaste Yoga for Prenatal and Postnatal, Let's Play! Yoga for Kids, Yoga For Women, Ashtanga and Yoga for Beginners as part of her certification. One World Yoga was formed when she started teaching at various locations and needed one place and forum to inform her students of her offerings. Amissa has trained with Judith Lasater for the Relax and Renew Restorative Yoga program, attended Laughter Yoga training and during her third pregnancy completed her 500 hour teacher certification with Samatva Yoga in 2007. She has apprenticed in Ayurveda and Holistic Nutrition, trained as a chef, and offers consulting in those areas, as well as working as a Full Spectrum Doula since 2003, when she began her journey by training in Birthing From Within Childbirth Education, then trained in Loss Support, Birth Support, Antepartum Support, Postpartum Support- including PostPartum Ayurvedic Doula training with Ysha Oakes of Sacred Window, Placenta Encapsulation, Lactation Support, Fertility Support and Adoption Support and began work as a Full Spectrum Doula. She also supports clients in surgery, dealing with chronic illness and hospice. Amissa has attended well over 500 births as a doula and supported multiple families in their childbearing years in El Paso since 2006 when she added birth and wellness to the One World name. She has taught workshops throughout the country and is the creator of Red Tent Yoga for Women 8-80, Girl Power Yoga for girls 12-17, Devotional Yoga- Yoga as a Spiritual Practice and the ReBalance Cleanse. She is teacher, creator and director of the Yoga Teacher Training at Casa de Yoga, registered with Yoga Alliance, developer and instructor of The Doula Concept Full Spectrum Doula Training, as well as working with private clients through the One World brand. Amissa is a licensed massage therapist, centering on wellness and providing specialized massage for women in fertility, pregnancy, postpartum and menopause, as well as incorporating Asian modalities including Ayurveda, Thai, Cupping, and Shiatsu techniques in order to expand to multiple needs in her client care. She believes in the healing power of laughter and that each offering she puts her energy into focuses on community and rebuilding the villages we all need- a place of love, acceptance and breath.
